LinkedIn has exploded in the last few years to become a valuable networking tool. But are you using it the right way?
LearnVest outlines common mistakes people make on their LinkedIn profiles. Here are a few of their do’s and don’ts:
DO: Use a picture. If you meet people at a networking event, they can find you much more easily on LinkedIn if you have a photo.
DON’T: Send the standard connection request. Tailor it to that specific person so they really take notice of you.
DO: Update the privacy settings, especially when you need to be discreet — like updating your profile if you’re looking for a new job.
DON’T: Leave out past jobs or volunteer work. This isn’t your resume, so you don’t have to keep it to a single sheet of paper!
Do you actively monitor your LinkedIn profile?
